How Long Does Windshield Replacement Take? What to Expect at Our Bremerton Shop

One of the most common questions we get at our Bremerton location is: 'How long will this take?' It's a fair question — you have a schedule, and a cracked windshield is already an inconvenience. Here's an honest breakdown of what to expect.

The Short Answer: 60–90 Minutes for Most Replacements

A standard passenger vehicle windshield replacement — sedan, SUV, or pickup truck — takes between 60 and 90 minutes of shop time at our Bremerton location. That includes removing the old glass, cleaning and prepping the frame, applying new urethane adhesive, setting the new glass, and doing a final inspection.

However, there's an important distinction between shop time and safe drive-away time. The urethane adhesive that holds your windshield in place needs time to cure before the glass can handle road stress safely.

Safe Drive-Away Time: Why It Matters

Modern urethane adhesives used in windshield replacement have a minimum safe drive-away time (SDAT) — the minimum time after installation before it's safe to drive the vehicle. Most quality urethanes used today have a 1-hour SDAT under normal conditions, meaning you can drive away within an hour or two of arrival in most cases.

Temperature affects curing time. On a cold Bremerton morning (below 40°F), curing takes longer. On a warm day, it's faster. Our technicians account for current conditions and will tell you the exact safe drive-away time for your specific installation.

We use OEM-equivalent urethane adhesives that meet or exceed FMVSS 212 safety standards. We will never rush a cure time — your safety is the priority.

What Can Make It Take Longer?

  • ADAS camera recalibration — if your vehicle has a forward-facing safety camera mounted to the windshield, calibration adds 45–90 minutes after the glass is set
  • Rust or damage on the pinch weld — if the frame has corrosion, it must be treated before new glass can be installed safely
  • Rare or specialty glass — most common vehicles have glass in stock; unusual makes or trims may require a special order (usually next-day delivery)
  • Heated windshields or rain sensors — these require additional care during installation and connection

Same-Day vs. Next-Day Service in Bremerton

We stock glass for the most common vehicles in the Kitsap area — Toyota Tacoma, Ford F-150, Subaru Outback, Honda CR-V, Chevy Silverado, and many others. If your vehicle is on that list and you call before 10 AM, same-day service is usually available.

For less common vehicles, we can typically have glass delivered overnight and schedule your replacement for the following morning. We'll confirm availability when you call or book online.

What to Do While You Wait

Our Bremerton shop is located on Kitsap Way, close to several coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance. Most customers drop off their vehicle and walk over for coffee. We'll text or call you when it's ready.

If you need to stay on-site, we have a comfortable waiting area with Wi-Fi. We can also arrange a courtesy drop-off to nearby locations for longer jobs.
